Some of the movies are pretty good. They actually follow the book pretty well and the effects aren't that bad, either. After watching Eragon, I've liked the Harry Potter movies even more.

Re: Harry Potter Series
I read the first 4 books. Never really got into it much. Like some of the movies though.
Re: Harry Potter Series
It's a love/hate thing for me, well, I generally like the books. Deathly Hallows I keep going back and forth on, just to many "Dues Ex Machinas" and not enough of Harry actually earning his quest, also, I wish Harry would have done more during the fight scene, instead of hiding while all of his friends battled to the death.

Re: Harry Potter Series
I'll have to disagree, Harry never backed down in the Entire book, his courage was the sole reason he was able to defeat Voldemort, and, I counted, maybe 2 dues ex machinas in the entire book.
1. Harrys wand works of his own accord
2. Dobbys arrival at Malfoy Manner.
You could argue Ron coming back was one too, but since Ron was deeply involved with the adventure it was perfectly conceivable he could come back.
In that final battle, Harry had a mission, yes, he was under the invisibility cloak while his friends fought, but how many times in the previous books was Harry in their position for them? If Harry doesn't finish Voldy, everything would happen again, Voldy would recreate the Horcruxes and start from scratch, coming back whenever he chooses.

Re: Harry Potter Series
I read books 2-6, but I stopped because I lost interest in them. And because I grew a disliking for Harry himself.

Re: Harry Potter Series
Loved the new movie. Half-Blood Prince kinda ticked me off with how much it left out.
Re: Harry Potter Series
Well, the last movie was really good, and the book was okay but i stoped half way through cause i hate reading. I think the last movie will be the best though.

Re: Harry Potter Series
For the benefit of my current novel, I'm thinking about tackling one of the first three books of the series to see how Rowling transitioned through an entire school year in about 300-400 pages.
Well TG, Which book should I read again?

Re: Harry Potter Series
I think the first gives the most background for how the school operated and is probably your best bet on figuring the best way to incorporate that as well as outside plot developments.
Re: Harry Potter Series
Ya I do remember the first book really discriptive and everything. But also maybe if you had the time read the third to cause it tells a bit about the things around the school to if that would help you.

Re: Harry Potter Series
Ah, both are great suggestions, I actually wanted to read the third book again because it's my favorite book of the series. However, I think I'm going to take Connor's advice and re-read the first novel since it introduces the reader to the flow of the school year, thank you both for your ideas!
