Legal Age Distinctions
What makes a person that is 17 years and 364 days old less liable for murder than someone that committed murder on their 18th birthday? What makes someone that is 20 years old less able to regulate themselves maturely such that they should be barred from alcohol usage for another year, when someone that is irresponsible, yet 21 is able to buy it whenever they want? Why does someone have to go through so much shit to get a license when they're 16 versus someone who can just go ahead, take 2 tests and get it when they're 18 in less than 2 hours? And if an 18 year old has sex with a 17 year old, why is it considered statutory rape when if they wat one more year it will be perfectly fine

Re: Legal Age Distinctions
Well, they have to draw the line somewhere. The system wouldn't work if the clerk/person at the DMV just tried to judge your maturity on the spot.
Re: Legal Age Distinctions
I agree with you Jake on all of those issues, but I also agree with Brad. There just has to be a line drawn somewhere, and sometimes those distinctions are a huge loophole for the law.
Re: Legal Age Distinctions
It's a flawed law. I like how when you become a legal adult they still don't think you are responsible enough to drink alcohol.

Re: Legal Age Distinctions
I agree its a joke. Here in Scotland you can get married at 16 but cannot drive till you are seventeen or drink/smoke until you are 18. Surly being married is a bigger responsibility than driving, smoking or drinking. Its crazy. May of gone a bit off topic but the principles are the same.

You're not off topic at all.
Scotland would be an awesome place to live, btw, I <3 the UK.
Though I've never been to the UK ...
And I don't believe I've seen you around here before, so welcome to the forum My name is Tyler. [this is an example of off-topic, haha]

I don't like the system, either. I don't think you can measure a person's merit through the years that they've lived. I'm far more mature than some adults I know. Maybe instead of testing the date of the person's birth, we should be testing their IQ.
