Straightedge (Or Other Philosophies)

I've been sXe for a little bit now, and I really love the whole philosophy. For those of you that aren't familiar, the Straightedge pledge is all about having fun without any 'crutches' or other influences. That means no drugs, no alcohol, no tobacco, and no promiscuous sex. Even more so, it's about being proud of it all Not only are we clean, but we're PROUD of it. It's cool to be clean, more or less. Of course, it's open for discussion (especially for sXe people under age 21), but it's a really positive way of life, and I love it. Anyone here edge? Or does anyone else have any great philosophies that they live by?

Yeah I consider myself to be sXe to. I heard alcholism is hereditary and my great grandpa killed himself because he was an alcoholic so that's pretty much why I'm sXe to keep myself from falling into the same trap.

Those are good beliefs since I don't partake in any of those things, Sex/Drugs, its good that people can do this as it increases the quality of life.

Typically, I could be labeled Straightedge, but I don't like to think of it that way since I'm not even legal for some of those things.

I know a lot of people that say everyone is sXe until they're 21, but really, that's not the case. Some of my 'friends' have been drinking heavily since Fifth grade. Yeah. FIFTH GRADE. You can't tell me you don't know kids now that are doing all of those things that we stand up against. It's all about choices, being legal really doesn't matter, you can still be influenced by the junk, and I think it's even better that we stand against it now as youth so we can help portray the image that it's cool to be clean to the rest of the public, especially piers and those younger and easily influenced.

But again, one cool thing about this philosophy is that we really don't force the belief upon anyone, and we don't have our own private sect. We can still be with everyone else, we're just the ones enjoying the experiences more (and remembering them, lol)

Eh I could be since i'm not that open sexually I guess you could say, and I dont like drugs or smoking. Alcohol...I've drank a little bit before and I like getting tipsy. I don't really believe in sex with random people, or people you don't care about.

lol, your personal policies and beliefs are fine. You can still be respected for who you are, being straightedge is basically just saying "I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I don't have casual sex, but I do like hardcore" all in one blow. There's no pressure being edge or not, you just decide sometime if you're willing to give up all of the other influences. Generally when people "break edge" they're considered sell-outs. If being sXe isn't for you, that can still totally be respected, so no worries ;-) There's simply no need to get into something you're not passionate about and not willing to take up forever (sXe for life

One of my friends wrote like an 11 page essay on the history of sXe culture. it's pretty epic!

Haha. I tend to lean towards thinking SxE is a fad amongst the whole scene culture. Holy **** I can't wait until that dies out. Stupid people with skunk hair.

straightedge lifestyle is like pledging that you will not drink, do drugs, smoke, or have random meaningless sex

pretty much you vow to behave and have fun without needing alcohol or drugs.
